As part of the "Together, We", campaign celebrating more than 100 teams at Synapxe and their role in transforming Singapore’s public healthcare.
Who is SEED?
Meet some of our teams from SEED, otherwise known as Software Engineering & Development. The SEED teams work closely with their public healthcare counterparts to bring healthcare ideas to life through functional software solutions. They provide end- to- end development services, from software engineering to product management, supporting Singapore's public healthcare sector when specialised solutions are needed.
Projects
Here are four featured projects that showcase how SEED works with Singapore’s public healthcare to bring innovative healthcare solutions to life.
1. HealthHub: Enhancing Singapore’s national health portal

HealthHub, Singapore's national health portal, has been enhanced through a comprehensive digital transformation involving multiple initiatives: developing HealthHub AI, a multilingual chatbot that makes health information more accessible through personalised conversations in four languages; upgrading appointment booking systems with improved service selection workflows; establishing robust foundational infrastructure for better performance and reusability; modernising payment systems; and revamping the user interface for enhanced navigation and content discoverability.
The teams overcame several significant challenges throughout this transformation. For example, the AI team tackled technical hurdles including building an automated content synchronisation pipeline to keep health information current, developing intent classifiers to handle different query types appropriately, and training the system to understand local healthcare terminology across multiple languages. Also, the payment team migrated intricate payment workflows within tight two-month deadlines, while the foundation team developed comprehensive common services to reduce development complexity.
"Together, we make health information more accessible and inclusive through Singapore’s national digital health platform." - HealthHub AI
2. Woodlands Health Self Service Station: Building intuitive digital touchpoints

The Woodlands Health Self Service Station integrates appointment booking, payments and medication orders into a seamless system, building intuitive digital touchpoints for better care experiences. This self-service system reduces queues, improves efficiency, and empowers users to manage their own health journeys whilst reducing institutional costs.
The team's key challenge was troubleshooting hardware issues with the kiosk due to the nature of its hardware. Nonetheless, the team was able to overcome the challenge and solve issues with perseverance and innovation.
"We aim to deliver the best experience to public users and also reduce the burden on medical staff from answering and addressing (minor) matters from public users." - Woodlands Health
3. NUHS Mobile App: Shifting to patient-focused care experiences

The NUHS Mobile App represents a fundamental shift from hospital-centric to patient-centric digital care experiences, developed through collaboration between the National University Health System and Synapxe. This mobile patient portal empowers more than one million users with secure access to care, teleconsultations, and healthcare records anytime, anywhere.
The team's most significant challenge was bridging the technology gap across NUHS's diverse patient base, particularly among older adults who might be less comfortable with digital technology. They addressed this through comprehensive change management, user-centric design, and training frontline staff as digital ambassadors who were deployed at clinics to facilitate downloads and provide hands-on assistance. The results validated their approach: 34% of app users are above 60 years old, and 88% find features easy to use.
"We're not just building technology; we're building bridges between disciplines to create something none of us could achieve alone." - NUHS App Team
4. SingHealth Health Buddy: Making Healthcare More Accessible and Convenient

Health Buddy is a mobile app that connects members of the public with health services across the SingHealth Cluster. The app enables users to track their medical appointments and features a medicine order service that reduces queue times at pharmacies, making healthcare more accessible and convenient for patients.
The team faced a significant challenge when some developers were unfamiliar with AWS technology and project managers were new to the Healthcare Commercial Cloud environment. Despite tight timelines, they overcame these obstacles through collaborative learning and mutual support, successfully delivering the application on schedule.
"We aim to deliver a stable application, minimise issues raised, and focus on future development plans." - SingHealth Health Buddy
Behind every healthcare solution are dedicated teams who bring passion, creativity, and technical expertise to transform ideas into reality.
