HealthX Startup Day 2025: Open Call for Ideas

About

Synapxe HealthX Startup Day, 31 Oct 2025 aims to further support our HealthTech startups in their HealthX innovation journey. An Open Call for Ideas is launched for startups to explore new ideas for HealthTech Innovation themes from Public Healthcare Institutions.

Based on the innovation themes, we are seeking fresh perspectives and concepts on how emerging technology will shape and inspire Singapore’s public healthcare of tomorrow, today.

For each specific innovation theme, startups with ideas that are most closely aligned with the highlighted innovation themes will be given the opportunity to pitch and showcase their ideas at the HealthX Startup Day. The Open Call For Ideas is an exploratory phase. Innovation themes may be developed into future HealthX Call-for-Innovation opportunities that seek to create impact and benefits for healthcare providers and patients.

Innovation Themes

We invite you to submit your ideas under one or more of the following themes:

  • Theme 1: Optimising Surgical Instruments for Safer, More Efficient Surgeries

The management and condition of surgical instruments are vital for ensuring patient safety and achieving successful surgical outcomes. Currently, the process of tracking and managing these instruments involves manual processes and may be prone to human error. This could lead to potential shortages; damaged or inaccurate instruments may go unnoticed and could compromise safety. Manual checks can be time-consuming and may slow down operations, contributing to staff burnout. Workflow disruptions due to inaccurate instruments can lead to surgical delays and the need for rescheduling, impacting patient care. Limited data for decision-making disrupts proactive maintenance and inventory management, while compliance and traceability issues arise from error-prone manual tracking systems.

How might we develop an integrated and automated tracking system for surgical instruments that provides real-time visibility of their availability, condition, compliance and traceability, and ultimately improves the safety and efficiency of surgical procedures?
  • Theme 2: Reimagining Staff Scheduling and Leave Coordination
Effective staff scheduling and leave coordination are important for ensuring that the right personnel are available to provide care when needed. Currently, systems are fragmented and inefficient, leading to confusion over leave applications, unaddressed emergency leaves, miscommunications on clinic closures and needs, and static rostering that does not adapt to sudden changes. These issues not only disrupt operations but also negatively impact patient care and staff morale.

How might we develop an innovative solution that streamlines staff scheduling and leave management in healthcare settings, ensuring real-time updates, dynamic roster adjustments, and enhanced transparency to improve operational efficiency and staff satisfaction while prioritising patient care?
  • Theme 3: Smarter Ways to Triage Patients

In the healthcare landscape, effective patient triage is essential for ensuring timely and appropriate care. Current triage systems are often hindered by manual processes that are not only time-consuming but also susceptible to human error. Healthcare professionals struggle with retrieving and processing information from various sources, which can lead to delays and inconsistencies in patient assessments. Additionally, tailoring triage outputs for different care contexts is labour-intensive, increasing the risk of misprioritisation.

    Some use cases may include:

    •  Pre-ED Patient Call/Message: Assess the necessity of an emergency department visit versus a general practitioner consultation or direct admission, as well as home assessments.
    • Hospital@Home Suitability: Identify patients who are suitable for the Hospital@Home program, ensuring that those who can receive care at home are prioritised accordingly.
    • Triage for SOC Referrals: Prioritise Specialist Outpatient Clinic (SOC) appointments based on patient needs, including suitability for pre-appointment workups, thereby optimising resource allocation and patient flow.

How might we create an automated triage solution that efficiently aggregates and processes data from multiple sources, enabling accurate and context-specific patient assessments while enhancing the overall patient experience and optimising care pathways across diverse healthcare settings?
